Shaw Pet Hospitals in Victoria BC no longer recommends private pet cremation
As a result of recent concerns about this industry and until an assured and ethical provider can be found, Shaw Pet Hospitals will no longer offer or recommend private pet cremations.

Another sad story that could have been avoided had the veterinary clinic done their due diligence . . .
“I talked to the guy who does the cremation,” said Dr. Kahlon, “and he said the furnace was on for a long time, that´s why the ashes from 130 pounds ended up in a smaller box.”
A second employee chimed in with further explanation and said, “Six hours in a high pressure furnace.”

Dead animals found again - this time in Rye
Officials at the scene of the April incident.
The case is similar to the discovery three months ago of 35 dead animals in trash bags a few miles away.
An investigator says no connection between the two incidents had been established.

Their beloved Cocker Spaniel Jenny, who had died the week before, was now buried in the family´s back yard. The boy asked whether he could dig up his dog so he could give her a hug. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is now trying to track the owner of the fishing net that the endangered animal was tangled in. Losing a beloved companion is hard enough, I can only imagine the anguish at realizing the ashes in the urn may not be those of your deceased companion!

The day after my mother died, an acquaintance earnestly told me, “I know just how you feel. My beloved dog passed away last month.” I admit I was insulted. I know she was trying to be empathetic, but really, how can grief over a pet be the same as grief over a parent?
