Deceptive pet cremation practices are unethical and need to stop!

Helpful resources to protect yourself and your family against unethical pet cremations.

“There is a new and wonderful resource for pet families not only in North America, but for anyone on any continent needing a dignified pet cremation for their beloved companion,” says Jocelyne Monette, owner of Pet Loss Care Memorial Center in Victoria, BC. “This resource can be found online at http://www.petcremationalliance.org. Please do yourself a favour and refer to this site before you engage the services of any pet cremation provider, whether directly with the crematorium or through your vet.”

Jocelyne further notes that although there are several pet loss organizations in the US, such as the Pet Loss Professionals Alliance (PLPA), and the International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematoriums (IAOPCC) it is still an entirely unregulated industry. The pet crematorium can tell you they are providing you with a private, single pet cremation and there are no laws to ensure that they comply.

“I sit on the Standards & Ethics Committee for the PLPA,” continues Monette. “And although a Code of Ethics was created after many months of hard work, it is not enforceable. You can only count on the īmoral and ethicalī conduct of the pet crematorium and/or the vet clinic that is referring you to a particular provider.”

“Truth in advertising does not exist for this industry. The Canadian Consumer Protection Agency will not get involved, nor will any provincial/federal agency or local authorities. Why? Because no law has been broken!”

“I applaud the Pet Cremation Alliance and their new website,” explains Monette. “Because for the very first time, pet families are provided with the resources that, if followed, will give them the most protection against potential deceptive pet cremation.”

All that is recommended on this site has long been offered by Pet Loss Care Memorial Center, from specializing only in private pet cremation, to witness cremations, video certification and online streaming. Our tracking system, mSTAS, is like no other offered in the industry. Pet Loss Care Memorial Center was awarded the Innovative Excellence Award by the Victoria Chamber of Commerce in April 2011. The University of Victoria Peter B. Gustavson School of Business sponsored this prestigious award.

“Be pro-active, ask questions, demand some type of confirmation or proof that your pet will be cremated by itself for a private cremation.”
