The mother needed a way to explain to her son that only Jenny´s body was in her grave, and only the physical part of his relationship with Jenny was lost when Jenny died.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is now trying to track the owner of the fishing net that the endangered animal was tangled in. The day after my mother died, an acquaintance earnestly told me, “I know just how you feel. My beloved dog passed away last month.” I admit I was insulted. I know she was trying to be empathetic, but really, how can grief over a pet be the same as grief over a parent?
